the idea:
The idea for this event came after January, the month when suicides spike after the holidays.
As the founder of the creatives society, I have seen my friends and I struggle with the question, “Will this year be different from last year?”. Sometimes we do not win the struggle.
According to PAPYRUS; Suicide is the main cause of death in young people under the age of 35 in the UK.
This event aimed to give back a voice to the hopes, dreams and struggles that shape under 35’s lives - through comedy and storytelling. Donating any profits we raised to PAPYRUS.
We gave an open invitation to any student in the university to be guided on how to deliver their spoken word, and found some fantastic people.
What is the Creatives society?:
The Creatives Society was founded under the need for a space for non-creative degree students to have a place to learn and showcase their creative skills alongside creative degree students at York St John University. Being a creative meant that it didn’t matter what kind of art you created; we could find a way to have the most unlikely disciplines work together.
